![]() After a lot of soul searching we decided we needed a different boat one that would meet our geriatric needs. The Mexican medical Doctors have time to really do their job - diagnose and treat. But swallowing the hook was hard to do we didn't feel ready for that yet. During that time we came to realize it would be very hard to handle a storm at sea in our sail boat, age and health were against us! Trips to the fore deck were out of the question even little Z was now a geriatric. The recovery was slow and Magic Carpet danced at the docks like a floating condo for us. Both the Captain & Admiral are now doing well. Our Doctor in Mexico tried to find out what was happening test after test - but he found the problems & the solutions. As we prepared Magic Carpet for sea in the fall of 2018 we found it harder to get things done, Doctors in the states told us we were just getting old, but we found that very hard to except. It seems like time has run out for us, we still hold on to our adventures spirit, but health & age have taken their toll! 2019 was a wake up call year for us. ![]() Developed a great love and respect for our south of the boarder neighbors, there is so much to see & do in Mexico, knowing we would never retrace our trip we have tried to see it all. We have had a great time seen and done things we only dreamed about. The kids were raised on their own, it was now our time. ![]() It took a little over a year to finish our voyage preparation and sail under of the Golden Gate Bridge chasing a dream. That was our last sail, We sailed out of Todd Harbor, Bethel Island, California Delta to San Francisco Bay on December 7, 2007. Their future plans and dreams of sailing the world revolve around this huge fit.Little did we know at the time our Golden Years Adventure "Dreams into Reality "had ended! He mixes parts A (yellow) and B (blue) together with a plastic spreader until it reaches the perfect consistency and green color and they both agree that “Epoxy has never been so fun!” They apply the fairing compound over the fiberglassed areas of the quarter berth, then sand it all smooth to prepare for primer and paint which you will see in their upcoming episodes. Before mixing, Aladino jokingly warns Maya not to eat this colorful product that resembles cake frosting (her weakness!). Now that the fiberglassing is done, next comes the fun part! FAIRING! They decide to go with our TotalFair Fairing Compound and are happily surprised with how easy the mixing process is. Aladino begins to cut and wet out the fiberglass of the entire area. Now that they came to this clever solution, it was time to get back to work. ![]() ![]() Their compromise was to leave the chart table as is and extend the quarter berth by removing the ice box under the chart table, opening it up to create room for their knees. However, Maya’s priority was to keep the chart table its original size because it is their only galley counter and her spot to do all of her work for their YouTube channel! They are using the boat’s original chart table, but Aladino’s fear was that they wouldn’t be able to accommodate a quarter berth long enough to sleep, so he wanted to extend the berth and shorten the table. Maya and Aladino’s first task this week was to come to a solution for their different design ideas for the chart table and quarter berth area. After overcoming some interior design dilemmas, this sailing couple gets to fiberglassing and fairing the quarter berth with our High Performance Epoxy and TotalFair Fairing Compound! They are refitting their Cape George 36 to sail her around the world. In this week’s featured video, we are back in the boat yard with Maya and Aladino of Sailing Magic Carpet. ![]()
